1.The device should be charged upto 60-65%.

2. Enable Developer options: Go to Settings > About > Tap 7 times on Build number

3. Enable USB Debugging button: Go to Settings > Developer options > Enable USB Debugging button

4. Enable OEM Unlock: Go to Settings > Developer options > Enable OEM Unlock button

Steps to Unlock Bootloader of MI Max 2

Step 1. Download and Extract the MI Flash Unlock .zip file.

Step 2. Run MiFlashUnlock.exe

Step 3. Click on > Agree and Sign in into your MI account or create a new account.

Step 4. After Signing in some sort of process will start. When you get the message “You Don’t Have The Permission To Unlock The Device”, click on >  Go.

Step 5. Now, wait for 1-2 days for your application to get approved. When your application gets approved, you will get an OPT password which you have to put in the Unlocking Screen.

Step 6. After getting an OTP password, open Mi Flash Tool on your computer and you will have to permission to unlock your device. Follow the process and your bootloader will be unlocked and done.

Congratulations! Your bootloader of Mi Max 2 has been unlocked.

Steps to install TWRP Recovery on Mi Max 2

Step 1. Enable USB debugging and OEM Unlock options steps above.

Step 2. Download and Extract ABD and Fastboot Tool .zip file.

To Install ABD and Fastboot Tool

  • Run 15-Second-ADB-Installer-v1.4.3.exe

Now blue screen will appear with the following

  • Do you want to install ABD and Fastboot Tool? (Y/N)  Type > Y and press enter
  • Install ABD system-wide? (Y/N) Type > Y and press enter
  • Do you want to install device drivers? (Y/N) Type > Y and press enter
  • The setup wizard will appear. Complete it and done.

Step 3. Download and Extract TWRP Recovery .zip file. Rename the .img file to recovery. Now move the file recovery.img file in ABD and Fastboot folder.

Step 4. Now Power off your phone and boot into Fastboot mode by

Holding Power off + Volume Down button 

Once it is in Fastboot mode connect your device to PC with USB cable.

Step 5. Open Command Prompt Window in ABD and Fastboot folder by

Hold Shift key + Right click and select >Open Command prompt window here.

Step 6. Type the following command in Command prompt window

fastboot devices and press enter

It will return your device’s serial number

Step 7. Type the following command in Command prompt window

fastboot flash recovery recovery.img and press enter

Congratulations! TWRP Recovery has been successfully installed on your device.

Steps to Root Mi Max 2

Step 1. Download the Super su .zip file. The link in the download section. Move the file to your phone storage.

Step 2. Boot your device into Recovery mode by

Holding Power off + Volume Up key

Step 3. Once you are in Recovery Mode 

Click on > Install > Navigate and select Super su.zip file > Swipe right to confirm install > Click on Reboot.

Congratulations! Your device has been successfully Rooted.
