Due to reasons unknown (to me!), Samsung chooses to disable the USB Tethering and Wireless Hotspot Tethering on Galaxy Note 8. This may not be the case of all the countries or variants. But, the issue exists. In this article, we will tell you how to enable USB Tethering and Wireless Hotspot Tethering on Galaxy Note 8.

Steps to enable USB Tethering and Wireless Hotspot Tethering on Galaxy Note 8

Follow the below steps carefully:

Step 1. Enable developer options: Go to Settings > About phone > Repeatedly tap “Build number” until developer access is granted.

Step 2. Install and setup ADB drivers on your PC. Follow the below guide:

Step 3. Enable USB Debugging: Go to Settings > Developer options > Tap on ‘USB debugging’ to enable the same.

Step 4. Connect your phone to your PC via USB cable.

Step 5. Get into ADB Shell: Open a Command Prompt [Windows key + R, then type "cmd” in the box and press enter)

Step 6. Run the below command in the command prompt:

adb shell

Step 7. Enable the bypass: This is a two steps process. Follow carefully.

1. Disable the DUN requirement: Execute the below command in command prompt.

settings put global tether_dun_required 0

2. Overwrite the DUN APN: Execute the below command in command prompt. Make sure you copy the entire command, it’s a pretty lengthy one! [Tip: Scroll and select it completely]

settings put global tether_dun_apn "APNDUN,n.ispsn,,,,,,,,,310,120,,default,mms,dun"

Step 8. Turn off Mobile data.

Step 9. Turn on Hotspot.

Step 10. Turn on Mobile data. IMPORTANT: Read the next section below!

How to use Tethering after applying this MOD

Every time that you want to use the hotspot, you need to do the following:

1. Turn Mobile Data Off
2. Turn Hotspot On
3. Turn Mobile Data On

When you disconnect your hotspot you need to do the following:

1. Turn Hotspot Off
2. Turn Mobile Data Off
3. Turn Mobile Data On
