Guide to Install OTA Updates Manually using Recovery and ADB sideload

Over-the-air (OTA) update these are the updates which are delivered to your device straight from the manufacturer when a newer version of Security patch, Android version is released. When the new Android version is available it may take several days to reach to your device but you can download the official OTA update straight from Google (or your manufacturer) and manually install it yourself. So here are some simple steps to install an OTA update manually.

Note: You might need stock recovery to perform this task.

Method 1:- Install OTA update from recovery

Step 1: Download the OTA update’s .zip file and transfer/copy it your Android device’s internal storage.

Step 2: Now boot your device into Recovery mode by

Power off your device and Hold down the Power off + Volume down key simultaneously for 2-3sec.

When a menu appears, use the volume buttons to move the cursor up and down and select the Recovery option from the menu by pressing Power off button.

Step 3: Select the option  “Apply update” or “Apply update from phone storage”.

Step 4: Navigate to select the file which you transferred and install it.

Step 5: When done simply select the Reboot option from Recovery menu and done.

Once you have done the Preriquisites part you can follow the steps given down

Step 1: Connect you device to PC via USB cable.

Step 2: Now go to the folder where you downloaded/saved the file and open the command prompt window here by

Holding Shift key + Right click > Select Open Command Prompt Window Here

Step 3: Boot your device into Recovery mode by typing the following command in command prompt

adb reboot recovery

Step 4: Once in recovery mode, use Volume buttons to navigate up and down between options and Power button to select “Apply update from ADB” option.

Step 5: To begin installation just type the command as

adb sideload

Step 6. When done now simply reboot your device by selecting the Reboot option from Recovery menu.

Congratulations! You successfully installed the OTA Update manually.
