But one cannot simply deny the fact that these are some of the best devices money can buy right now. The software on Pixel 2 is almost Stock Android. There are some Pixel exclusive features baked on top of Stock Android and that’s about it. It is really a bummer that Google does not provide an option to theme Pixel 2. Substratum for Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL
After the untimely death of CyanogenMod, CM Theme Engine slowly went into oblivion. With CM Theme Engine gone, Android badly needed a theme engine for all its theming needs. Substratum was made to meet those needs. Initially, Substratum only supported rooted devices. But starting with Android Oreo, Substratum will also support unrooted Android devices.
Thankfully, Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL ship with Android Oreo.That simply means that we can easily install Substratum on Pixel 2 XL and Pixel 2. With Substratum, you have a wide variety of themes to choose from! Read ahead to download Substratum for Pixel 2 XL and Pixel 2.
Download Substratum for Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL
We are going to need two apps to get Substratum fully working on Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL without root. Install the below-mentioned apps from Google Play Store:

- Download Andromeda App:

How to Install/Setup Substratum on Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL
- Make sure you have installed both the apps mentioned in the downloads sections above.
- Enable USB Debugging on your device: How to Enable Developer Options, USB Debugging and OEM Unlock On Android
- Open up the Andromeda app on your phone. It should say “Disconnected” for the “Connection status“.
- Now connect your device to PC via USB cable.
- Once you’ve have connected your device:
Windows users: Download AndromedaClient-Windows-3.4.zip. Extract the ZIP and double click on the only batch file inside the zip. Ensure only ONE device is connected and press any key to continue. You will now see the script run in a Command Prompt window and it will launch Substratum!
Mac users: Download AndromedaClient-Mac-3.2.dmg. Open up the DMG and double click on AndromedaClient (purple icon), then it will ask you to pick the disk image that you just mounted in the file browser. Click on OK then wait for your device to launch Substratum!
Linux: Download AndromedaScript-Linux-3.2.zip. Unzip the archive and run ./start_andromeda.sh. Watch the script as it runs and done!
- After the above step, if the Substratum app does not open automatically, open it manually.To verify that the script worked, open up the Andromeda app again, and the connection status should now show “Connected“.
- Now the Andromeda service is up and running on your device!
Congratulations, you have successfully installed substratum on your Pixel 2. Please note that this service is killed when you reboot your device and you have to redo these steps on every boot.
