And when I say things going wrong, it means making your device dysfunctional with all your data in it. This is the reason why we must keep a backup of our data. What is NANDROID backup?

There are a lot of ways in which one can back up his/her data but no way is as effective as a Nandroid backup. Nandroid is a de-facto standard directory structure for storing Android system backups. It is a standard structure for backing up the perfect mirror image of your Android device. It is accessible through Recovery Mode that provides options to back up a phone and restores it in the exact same state of what it was backed up. It is a creation of  XDA developer Infernix.

A nandroid backup basically includes the copy of the phone’s stock or custom ROM, all the apps (including all the preinstalled one), all system settings, all account settings, all pictures, music and videos, contacts and messages, wallpapers and widgets. It backs up everything you can literally imagine.

Note: Nandroid backups are quite large (it can be as large as few GBs), so you’ll need a large microSD card to store them. Before you proceed you must have your bootloader unlocked and TWRP recovery installed. If you are having any troubles with unlocking the bootloader or installing TWRP recovery, you can follow our guides on How to Unlock Bootloader and How to install TWRP Recovery.
