How to Root Huawei P20 Lite Using Magisk

Huawei recently unveiled a bunch of devices in the new P20 series of smartphones and these are the first Huawei phones to come with the notch. In this guide, we will tell you how you can easily root Huawei P20 Lite with Magisk. This guide will work for the models ANE-LX1ANE-L01, and ANE-L21.

Huawei is one of the fastest growing Android manufacturers at the moment. We all know how the US Entry of the Chinese manufacturer was unfortunately shot down (by other manufacturers?), Huawei has no intention of stopping any time soon. They have been unveiling device after device with many new features, both hardware and software wise. The latest addition to that line-up is the Huawei P20 series. The Huawei P20 Lite is one of the devices in the Huawei P20 family. The Huawei P20 Lite is powered by an Octa-core HiSilicon Kirin 659 Processor. A 4 GB of RAM & Mali-T830 MP2 graphics processor ensures phone runs smoothly even the most memory intensive applications & still shows no signs of lag. The phone comes with 128 GB of internal storage which can be expanded to 256 GB via a microSD card. The Phone comes with a large 3000 mAh battery to support its 5.8-inch screen with IPS LCD display having a resolution of 1080 x 2280 at 432 PPI. Steps to Root Huawei P20 Lite

  1. You must have unlocked the Bootloader of Huawei P20 Lite. If you have not done that, please do it through the official bootloader unlock page or you can also refer this guide.
  2. Boot your Huawei P20 Lite to Fastboot mode:
    1. Power off your phone.
    2. Connect the USB Cable to your phone.
    3. While holding down the Volume down button, connect the other end of the USB cable to your PC.
    4. Your device would now be in Fastboot mode.
  3. Download the patched_ramdisk.img from the downloads section above.
  4. Copy the file to the folder where ADB and Fastboot are installed on your PC. This should most probably be the ‘C:\adb’ folder. The ADB and Fastboot folder can always be found in the ‘C:\’ drive.
  5. Open a command prompt window inside the ADB and Fastboot folder: Holding Shift key + Right Click > Select Open Command Window here.ADB-Fastboot-Open-Command-Window
  6. Execute the below command to see if your device is properly connected in Fastboot Mode:
    fastboot devices

    If your device is properly connected, you would see a fastboot message along with your device ID being listed.

  7. Now, execute the following command to root Huawei P20 Lite:
    fastboot flash ramdisk patched_ramdisk.img
  8. Once the flashing process completes, you can reboot your device by executing the below command:
    fastboot reboot
  9. Done!

Steps to Unroot Huawei P20 Lite

  1. If you have installed any Magisk Modules, be sure to deactivate/remove/uninstall them before proceeding.
  2. Boot your Huawei P20 Lite to Fastboot mode:
    1. Power off your phone.
    2. Connect the USB Cable to your phone.
    3. While holding down the Volume down button, connect the other end of the USB cable to your PC.
    4. Your device would now be in Fastboot mode.
  3. Download the stock ramdisk image from the downloads section above.
  4. Copy the file to the folder where ADB and Fastboot are installed on your PC. This should most probably be the ‘C:\adb’ folder. The ADB and Fastboot folder can always be found in the ‘C:\’ drive.
