Google recently released the Android P Beta along with the second developer preview. Thanks to Project Treble, unlike yesteryears, Android P Beta is available on a handful of other Android devices other than pixel phones like Essential Phone, Nokia 7 Plus, Sony Xperia XZ2 and some more. But getting the beta version of the ninth iteration of Android isn’t easy for non-pixel phone owners. There are quite a number of annoying things which you have to go through to get it as you won’t be receiving OTA updates for the same.

For a brief intro, Sony Xperia XZ2 is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC with Adreno 630 GPU and 4 or 6 GB of RAM. Its display uses Sony’s patented triluminous display technology and is HDR 10 complaint.
Steps to Install Android P Beta On Sony Xperia XZ2
Note that you won’t get Sony’s custom skin on top of Android P as it isn’t released yet. Your user interface will be based on stock android firmware.
- Download and install Sony Xperia companion v2.1 on your PC by following the link: Get Sony Xperia Companion v2.1.
- Open it on your computer.
- Press and hold the ALT key on your PC and click on “Software Repair” on the home screen
- Tick the checkbox that says “My device cannot be detected or started” and then click “Next”
- Wait for the initialization to complete and then follow the instructions on the screen.
Congratulations! You are a beta tester now.
It’s not confirmed yet if it will be available for XZ2 compact. Hence make sure that your Sony Xperia XZ2 has either of models H8216, H8266 or H8296. You can check that by following these steps-
- Open Settings app.
- Click on About Phone.
- Check the model number from the menu.
