OnePlus 6T Tips And Tricks: Make The Most Out of Your Device

After teasing it for a really long time, OnePlus finally unveiled the OnePlus 6T at an event on 29th October 2018. Like any other ‘T’ series update from OnePlus, the OnePlus 6T doesn’t bring any landmark change from the OnePlus 6. It is powered by the same Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 which is clocked at 2.8 GHz and comes with either 6 or 8 GB of RAM. The minimum internal storage capacity is kept at 128 GB unlike the 64 GB variant of the OnePlus 6 and battery capacity is bumped up by 400 mAh, which are welcome changes. The design language remains basically the same but you would not find the 3.5 mm headphone jack, physical fingerprint reader and the wider notch. Yes! Even OnePlus ditched the headphone jack. The physical fingerprint sensor makes way for the in display fingerprint sensor and the notch is reduced to the shape of a water-drop, which by the way is my favorite notch implementation.

If you consider yourself to be a Power User and own a OnePlus 6T, you must know to utilize the phone to its fullest extent. Here is a guide to help you out in the same case.

1. Enable Navigation Gestures

OnePlus 6T runs on Oxygen OS 9 based on Android 9 Pie which brings in support for gesture navigation. Oxygen OS 9 supports two types of gestures: one which is very similar to the one found on the pixel and android one devices, the other is OnePlus’s take on a gesture-based navigation system. To be honest, I like OnePlus’s approach to gesture navigation more than Google’s. OnePlus’s approach allows users to take advantage of the entire screen real estate. To enable gesture navigations follow these steps:

  • Open the Settings app.
  • Tap on ‘Buttons and gestures’.
  • Now from the list of options, tap on the one which makes you feel more comfortable.

2. Change The Fingerprint Sensor Animation

I am sure by now you are aware of the fact that the OnePlus 6T comes with an in display fingerprint reader. The default animation to unlock the device is impressive but OnePlus offers multiple animations. You can select the one which feels more comfortable to you. To change the fingerprint sensor animation, follow these steps:

  • Open the ‘Settings’ app.
  • Head over to ‘Security and lock screen’ and tap on ‘Fingerprints’.
  • Now, tap on ‘Fingerprint animation effect’ and choose the one you like the most.

3. Enable The Night Mode

Most of the smartphone users, including me, wish that every phone come with the dark theme or night mode built-in. The light, the bright mode can cause irritation to eyes and disrupt sleep. For all the OnePlus 6T users, you got some reason to rejoice as the OnePlus 6T has your favorite dark theme built in. To enable the Night Mode, follow these steps:

  • Open the ‘Settings’ app.
  • Tap on ‘Display’ and then tap on ‘Night Mode’.
  • Now, you can choose how you want to implement the dark theme.

4. Activate Google Assistant With Ease

Off late, the popularity of virtual voice assistants like Google Assistant, Siri, Cortana and Bixby has increased by leaps and bounds. More and more people are using it now. Unlike manufacturers like Samsung and LG, OnePlus doesn’t push a non-remappable dedicated assistant button. OnePlus allows you to access the Google Assistant by holding the power button for 0.5 seconds. This comes handy once you use the OnePlus’s proprietary full screen gesture navigation system. To enable this feature, follow these steps:

  • Open the’Settings’ app.
  • Tap on ‘Buttons and gestures’.
  • Now, toggle on Quick Activate The Assistant App.

5. Improve Face Unlock In Low Light

I must agree that the face unlocks mechanism of the OnePlus 6T is extremely fast. Though it is not as secure as the 3D face unlocking algorithms used by some brands with the help of Infrared Cameras and flood illuminators, it does the job. Many people like to use their face to unlock the face which I don’t recommend until your phone uses 3D face scanning algorithms, you can improve the face unlock mechanism of the OnePlus 6T in low light scenarios. Just follow these steps:

  • Open the ‘Settings’ app.
  • From ‘Security and lock screen’, tap on ‘Face unlock’.
  • Turn on ‘Face Unlock assistive lighting’.

6. Enable Smart Boost

OnePlus introduced the Smart Boost feature during the OnePlus 6T launch event. OnePlus claims that this feature can increase the performance of your phone by 20% and is aimed towards the gamers and power users. Though it’s authenticity is yet to be confirmed, interested users can try this out. Smart Boost seems familiar with the GPU Turbo introduced by Huawei and AI Boost introduced by Asus. If you are interested in trying out the Smart Boost feature, follow these steps:

  • Open the ‘Settings’ app.
  • Tap on ‘Utilities’ and then tap on ‘OnePlus Laboratory’.
  • From the OnePlus Laboratory, enable the Smart Boost.

7. Change The Ambient Display Style.

Always On Display is something I wish every phone with an OLED panel should have. OnePlus has a good history with OLED panels but this feature has been missing for long. But now, with the launch of the OnePlus 6T, OnePlus answered it with its Ambient display. Ambient Display lets you check the time, date, battery, weather and notifications without unlocking your phone. That’s not all, you can even change the style of Ambient Display from the options available. To change your Ambient Display style, follow these steps:

  • Open the ‘Settings’ app.
  • Tap on ‘Display’ and choose ‘Ambient Display’.
  • Now, tap on ‘Clock style’ and choose your favorite option.
