WhatsApp is one of those apps which you use all day everyday. Learn how you can easily restore your old WhatsApp messages without using Google Drive.
WhatsApp has slowly and steadily made its way to almost every smartphone user’s life. I tried to live without WhatsApp for a couple of months and it was quite tough to get through that. Every day every WhatsApp user sends and receives quite a number of texts, photos, videos, gifs, documents and not to forget the recently added stickers. Some of those conversations can be very important for us. Not to forget the fact that these days many run their businesses over WhatsApp.

Many of us use Google Drive as our solution to restore the messages that we may loose accidentally during switching to new phones or for some other reason. Recently, WhatsApp even announced it that they are collaborating with Google so that backups made to Google Drive will not be counted towards your storage limit for Android users. This might be good news but note that WhatsApp Backups in Google Drive will not be encrypted. This means that you have a valid reason to be worried about the privacy of your data.
This article is for all those who feel that WhatsApp backup to Google Drive is not their cup of tea.

Restore Your WhatsApp Messages Without Using Google Drive
While Uninstalling/Reinstalling WhatsApp:
WhatsApp creates a local backup file every day at 2 am. This happens in the background and you might not even notice it in the background. Next time, when you factory reset your device install the WhatsApp application normally from the Google Play Store and register your contact number. After the verification is done, WhatsApp will automatically look for a backup on your phone. You will be asked to restore messages and files from the available backup.
While Switching to a New Phone:
This method would not work for those who switched phones. You would not have the backup file in your new phone’s memory. In that case, copy the local WhatsApp backup file from your old phone’s memory to the new one’s memory.
- To look for the local backup file, open any file explorer of your liking and open the WhatsApp folder and then look for the Databases folder. This is the path you should be looking for:
- Copy the most recent file from the folder. It will be mostly named as “msgstore.db.crypt12” Copy the same file to the same address (Local/Internal Storage/WhatsApp/Databases) in your new phone before installing the app and registering your number.
And you are done. Congratulations! You just restored your WhatsApp conversations without using Google Drive.
