Samsung has taken a huge leap ahead of Sony in terms of camera. Samsung unveiled the insane 64MP ISOCELL Bright GW image sensor on 9th May 2019. It is reported to pack the similar 0.8 micrometer-sized pixel. It is also expected to go under mass production in the second half of the year. This gives a strong possibility that we might be able to see this new camera sensor in the company’s next flagship the Galaxy Note 10.
The new 64MP sensor will be physically bigger, which means it can gather more light. This will improve the image quality very efficiently. However, in normal usage, the Bright GW1 sensor functions as a 16Mp sensor by merging 4 pixels into one. In the same way, the new 64Mp sensor will function as a 12MP sensor in normal usage. The quadruples will capture more detail and sharp photos in low light.
Executive VP of Sensor Business at Samsung Electronics Yongin Park stated, “Over the past few years, mobile phone cameras have become the main instrument for recording and sharing our everyday moments. With more pixels and advanced pixel technologies, Samsung ISOCELL Bright GW1 and GM2 will bring a new level of photography to today’s sleekest mobile devices that will enhance and help change the way we record our daily lives”.
Samsung stated that “It relies on the “Tetra cell Technology” to generate 16 Mp camera in low light conditions and 64 MP images in well-lit conditions”. Samsung sells its sensors to other manufacturers but, there it might reserve this great 64MP sensor for its flagship Note 10.
During Verizon’s Q1 2019 Earnings Call, CEO, Hans Vestberg confirmed that there will be a 5G Version of the Galaxy Note 10. He stated, “The Note and the Galaxy coming this year will both have 5G”.
Note 10 is expected to come in four models just like Galaxy S10 range. It will be interesting to see whether this new 64Mp sensor will be included or not and what extra features Note 10 will pack.
