When you create a new Gmail account, Google asks for a phone number for the verification process. In the past, providing a phone number while creating an account was optional, but now, it is mandatory.
Maybe you don’t want to share your phone number or you have already created a Gmail account with your phone number. You cannot use the same number for creating multiple Google mail accounts, and if you do so, Google may ban all of your accounts registered with the same number.
But, phone number verification is there for a reason. If your account gets hacked, or you forgot your password, then your phone number helps Google to notify you of any malicious activity with your Gmail account.
In this article, we will discuss different ways that can be used to create a Gmail account without providing the phone number.
- 1 Method 1: Create a Gmail Account on your Mobile Phone
- 2 Method 2: Set Your Age to Less Than 18
- 3 Method 3: Create Gmail Account through Private Window
- 4 Method 4: Create Gmail Account Using Disposable Numbers
- 5 Wrapping Up
Method 1: Create a Gmail Account on your Mobile Phone
You can create a Gmail account on your mobile phone, i.e, Android, or iOS. You will have to go to “Settings” and bypass Google asking you for your phone number.
Follow the below steps to get started with creating an account without a phone number.
Step 1: Go to the “Settings” on your mobile phone.
Step 2: Find and click on the “Accounts” or “Clouds & Accounts” from the list depending on the system.
Step 3: On the bottom of the list, choose “Add Account”.
Step 4: After clicking on Add Account, a list of various apps will appear. Select Google from the list.
Step 5: A Sign in screen will be open. Click on “Create account” on the bottom-left of the screen.
Step 6: Enter your First and Last name, and click on “Next”.
Step 7: Add your date of birth and gender, then click on “Next”.
Step 8: Choose a Gmail address and enter the password.
Step 9: Now, Google will ask you whether you want to add a phone number or not.
Step 10: Click on “Skip” to bypass the particular step, or click “More Options”.
Step 11: If you click on “More options”, you can select any of the options. Select ‘No, don’t add my phone number’. Then, click on “Next”.
Step 12: Review your account and click on “Next”. Accept the “Privacy and Terms” by clicking on “I agree”.
You don’t have to provide any other information now. You can use your new Gmail account without verifying your phone number.
Method 2: Set Your Age to Less Than 18
The second method to bypass the phone verification process is by providing your age as less than 18 years. If you put your age as 15 or younger, Google will assume that you don’t have a mobile phone, hence, it will not ask you for the phone number verification.
You can create an account without a phone number as follows:
- Open the browser on your desktop and visit Gmail.
- Click on “Create account” to create a new Gmail account.
- When you click on “Create account”, you will get a choice to choose from “For Myself” or “For Business”.
- Enter all the details like First and Last name, Password, and Username.
- Click on “Next”.
- Set your birth year to 2005 (assuming the current year as 2020) so that it will count you as 15 years old.
- Now, leave the phone number field as blank. Click on “Next”.
- Agree to Privacy and Terms for Google Account.
But, Google can ask you for your phone number in the future. Additionally, you can have a security option like another email.
Note: Make sure that you are logged out from all of your other Gmail accounts. If not, then Google will not ask you for your birth date and assume your birthday is the same as for your previous accounts.
Method 3: Create Gmail Account through Private Window
Step 1: Open your favorite browser, either Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox.
a) Google Chrome

- Search for www.gmail.com in the search bar.
b) Mozilla Firefox
- Open Mozilla Firefox on your desktop and at the upper right corner, click on “New Private Window” mode.
