Have you ever wondered why people always try to remove the background of an image to make it transparent?
The main reason behind that is to make images more powerful. Without any background in the image, you can add that image over any other image to make a masterpiece. Additionally, you can also use a colored background of your own choice.
But, how will you do that?
Here, Paint 3D comes in the picture. Despite the name suggests, it is not a classic MS Paint, but a modern image editor helps you to work on 2D and 3D objects with a number of effects.
Recently, Windows integrated Paint 3D with Snipping Tool and Microsoft Paint. So, if you take a screenshot with the help of the Snipping Tool, then it will be opened in Paint 3D, where you can edit it directly.
In this article, we will look at in-depth steps of making the background transparent with the help of Paint 3D.
Let’s get started.
1. Select Object using Magic Select Tool
Step 1: Open the image that you want to make transparent in Paint 3D. You can download an image from the Internet or choose a picture from your gallery. For example, we will take an image of emojis.
Step 2: Click on the “Magic Select” tool in the top bar.
Step 3: Select the portion of the image that you want to make transparent with the help of a selection box. You can use the sides or the corners to resize the selection box.
Once, you have finalized, click on “Next.”
Step 4: You will be amazed as the Paint 3D will automatically detect the object inside the selected part of your image. If you don’t want to change anything, then click on “Done”,
otherwise, you can “Add” or “Remove” the part of the selection area to refine your output.
Furthermore, the Add and Remove tool will help you to select the part of the image that you want to add or remove respectively.
In our example, Paint 3D has perfectly separated out the object, so we didn’t need to use the “Add” and “Remove” tool.
Step 5: As soon as you click on “Done”, another box outside your object will appear, which represents that the object has been successfully separated. Now, you can rotate the object in X, Y, and Z-axis.
2. Remove Background
Basically, there are two ways to remove the background from the image.
- Delete Background
- Using New File
Method 1: Delete Background
Step 1: Select the image and drag it outside the background. Make sure that the image should be placed completely outside the background.
Step 2: From the top-left corner, click on the “Select” tool and select the entire background with the help of a mouse. To check whether the background has been selected or not, if you see a box of dotted lines appear around the background then it has been selected successfully.
Step 3: To remove your selection entirely, either click on “Delete” or press the “Delete Key” on your keyboard.
Step 4: Now, you will see a white colored background. Select your object and drag it back on the background.
The background has been successfully removed. Now, go to “Make White Background Transparent” for the remaining steps. Although, you can also check the other method of removing background in Paint 3D.
Method 2: Using New File
The second way of removing the background is to create a new image. To get started, follow the below steps.
Step 1: Right-click on the separated object and click on “Copy” from the menu.
Step 2: At the top-left corner, click on “Menu” and select “New.” A dialog box will appear asking you whether to save the previous project or not. Click on “Don’t Save.”
Step 3: A new project will open with a white background. Either right-click on the background and select “Paste” or press “Ctrl+V.”
Your image will be pasted on the white background.
3. Make Background Transparent
Once you have your image on white background, you are ready to remove it and make the background transparent. Now, click on “Canvas” and a menu will appear on the right-side.
From the menu, you have to enable the toggle for “Transparent canvas” as it is disabled by default.
Note: You can also enable “Transparent canvas” by right-clicking on the image and then selecting the “Canvas” option.
Once you enable the Transparent canvas, you can see that the white background is removed and the images become transparent.
4. Save Transparent Image
The last step is to save your transparent image to your desktop and to do that, you have to follow the below steps.
Step 1: Click on “Menu” at the top-left corner and a menu with various options will pop-up. Select “Save as” from the menu with the file format as “Image.”
Step 2: Now, the first thing you have to check is whether the “Save as type” is in the PNG (image) format or not. If not, then you have to change it to PNG (image). The other available formats are JPEG (image), BMP (image), GIF (image), TIFF (image) MP4 (video), and GIF (video).
For instance, if you save your image in JPEG, then you will lose the transparency and it will be downloaded with the white background.
The other thing you should watch out for is “Transparency.” The Transparency box should be checked in order to download an image with a transparent background.
Note: In case, if you missed the step of making the white background transparent using the Canvas option, then you can check the Transparency box and your white background will be changed to transparent automatically.
Step 3: Lastly, click on the “Save” button. And, your images have been successfully saved with a transparent background.
Note: In our example, we have a background other than white, and firstly, we are making the background white and then removing it. In case, you have an image with a white background, then also you have to follow all the steps mentioned above.
Nowadays, the demand for skills in editing the images and videos is very high. There are various tools that help you to crop images easily. However, cropping the background out of an image sounds a bit tricky.
However, Paint 3D allows you to make background transparent very easily. You have to follow every step mentioned in this article for removing your image background and making it transparent.
