Once Facebook owned the world’s largest messaging service, WhatsApp, this was going to happen some or the other day. Now according to recent reports, Facebook will start ads for WhatsApp in the next year. This will be done for monetization purpose (puhh!!). The social media giant has announced that it will start rolling out ads in WhatsApp from 2020.

With previous information from different sources, during the annual Facebook Marketing Summit ads will be implemented into the status feature of WhatsApp. Like regular posts, the ads will occupy the entire screen, but rather than displaying the contact’s name WhatsApp will showcase the name of the company. Along with it, you will also get a swipe-up link.

According to a reliable source, Matt Navarra, he tweeted this information via his twitter handle @MattNavarra;

This will be done to boost the efficiency of the WhatsApp Business app. Moreover, to enhance it more, new ads will be linked directly to the accounts on Facebook and Instagram. Besides, WhatsApp Business will also get richer text format which includes PDF, with a short piece of text.

According to a Google Spokesperson to TechCrunch, he stated that;

WhatsApp does not currently run ads in Status though this represents a future goal for us, starting in 2019. We will move slowly and carefully and provide more details before we place any Ads in Status.

He also confirmed Tech Crunch that the chat app is planning to run ads inside the Status tab of the app. To recall, ‘Status’ is the second tab you see in your WhatsApp window right between the ‘Chats’ and ‘Calls’ tabs. Similar to Snapchat Stories features, photos or video posted inside Status disappear after 24 hours.

WhatsApp status has more than 450 million users and it is a big move for the company which would allow the company to earn huge profits. Let us wait and watch for the developments in this regard.
